Lars Nagler is an artist who is not afraid to push the boundaries and explore new mediums in his work. Using a mix of AI, 3D, 2D, sound, and photography, Nagler creates pieces that delve into the complexities of the human experience. But don’t let the heavy subject matter fool you — Nagler’s sense of humor is just as sharp as his artistic skills.
When asked about his artistic style, Nagler quips, “I am very free and curious…for me, it would be tiring to adapt one and the same picture over and over again for years. There are many examples of this in the NFT space. Trust me, I’ve seen them all.”
Nagler’s work is heavily influenced by directors like Tarkovsky and von Trier, as well as artists like Witkin and Magritte. “They all have a way of looking at the world that just speaks to me,” Nagler explains. “It’s like they’re saying, ‘Hey Lars, don’t be afraid to be weird and unique. Go out there and create something amazing.’”
But being an artist in the NFT space is not all rainbows and unicorns, as Nagler admits. “The biggest problem in the NFT system is being visible. If you want to achieve this without acting, it becomes even more difficult…if it were about the quality of art, I would have to be sold out long ago and permanently, but as it is in the NFT market, the success I deserve is forbidden to me.”
Despite these challenges, Nagler remains motivated and inspired by his curiosity for creating new art. He is currently working on an AI short film called “What if…” which is set to be released in spring 2023. “No advices, except: do not expect anything,” Nagler advises aspiring artists.
