The Unsigned Museum

“See the artwork before judging the artist.”

The Unsigned Museum is an Israeli–Emirati art initiative built around a simple experiment: what happens when audiences encounter an artwork before they encounter the artist’s name, nationality, biography, or political identity?

Works are initially exhibited anonymously and identified only by numbers. Visitors respond to the art and record their assumptions about its creator. The artists’ identities are later revealed, transforming the audience’s guesses and projections into part of the exhibition itself.

This is a collaborative project with its own participating artists — separate from Alex’s portfolio. The numbered frames here stand empty until those artists and works are confirmed.

About

Biography

Alex de Metalisa is an Israeli multidisciplinary artist working primarily in digital media. His practice combines digital image-making, AI-assisted creation, digital collage, blockchain-native art, and emerging creative technologies.

Since 2021 he has built a body of more than 400 works across Tezos and Ethereum — from the early Metalisa NFT Collection and its Book of WOW series, through the AI portrait cycles AITM and VGA, to Meta Psycho, Eyes of Metalisa, Ormadlisa, and ongoing experiments in video and sound. Rather than treating digital technology as a novelty, he uses it as both a medium and a space in which new artistic relationships can be created.

Much of his work exists outside conventional gallery structures, circulating through decentralized platforms and digital communities. Among his current projects is The Unsigned Museum, an Israeli–Emirati initiative examining what audiences see when the identity of the artist is temporarily removed.

Artist Statement

My work begins with a conflict between identity and perception.

Before an artwork is encountered, the artist is often categorized: by nationality, politics, biography, technology, or market. These categories influence what the audience believes it is seeing.

I use digital systems, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and visual experimentation to examine authorship and ownership—and to question who is permitted to define an artist.

I am interested in what happens when the assigned narrative is interrupted and creation is allowed to speak first.
